Position Overview

The company is looking for a veteran backend engineer who has operated at scale in top-tier product companies and is ready to take on a high-stakes technical leadership role. As SDE-3, you will serve as the primary guardian of engineering quality — owning architectural integrity, mentoring engineers, and driving the platform to handle 10x traffic growth.

Role & Responsibilities

• Lead backend evolution to handle 10x traffic growth, focusing on distributed systems, data consistency, and low-latency response times
• Author and lead cross-functional Technical Design Documents for major product milestones and architectural decisions
• Review Technical Specs authored by SDE-1s and SDE-2s, providing critical feedback to ensure system integrity and alignment
• Own platform uptime by implementing advanced monitoring, automated failovers, and robust disaster recovery strategies
• Actively coach and mentor SDE-1s and SDE-2s, fostering a culture of technical excellence and ownership
• Build and optimize CI/CD deployment pipelines to improve release velocity and reliability
• Ensure backend architecture meets industry standards for data security, privacy, and compliance

Must Have Criteria

• 5–7 years of backend engineering experience at high-growth product companies (Tier-1 startups or Big Tech)
• Deep hands-on experience with PostgreSQL — query optimization, schema design, and managing high-throughput workloads
• Production experience with Redis for caching and SQS or RabbitMQ for async message processing
• Hands-on experience with AWS, Kubernetes (K8s), and Docker in a production environment
• Experience designing and building distributed systems from scratch and presenting architectural decisions to senior stakeholders
• Experience setting up observability frameworks using Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog, or New Relic
• Prior experience leading a team of engineers or acting as a technical lead in the absence of an Engineering Manager

Nice to Have

• Experience setting up and managing large-scale data pipelines using ClickHouse or equivalent high-concurrency data stores
• 3+ years of hands-on production experience with NestJS and TypeScript for building scalable backend services
• Background in health-tech, e-commerce, or high-frequency consumer platforms
• Experience at a Series A–C startup where you helped scale systems from early-stage to production at significant load
• Contributions to open-source backend infrastructure projects
